Dr. Jacqueline Watson

Jackie Watson Dr Jacqueline Watson is currently a Visiting Fellow at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and a Visiting Fellow at Exeter University. Until recently, Jackie was the Director of the Centre for Spirituality and Religion in Education at UEA. In September 2014, she retired as a Lecturer in Educational Research in the School of Education and Lifelong Learning at the University of East Anglia although she continues to have strong links with UEA and with Exeter University’s Religion, Spirituality and Education Network. She has carried out research in the field of education, ranging across Religious Education, Citizenship Education, Every Child Matters, pupil voice, and art gallery education with the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts. Her long term and key research interests are in understandings of spirituality in relation to spiritual development and education, along with the inclusion of Humanism in Religious Education in the UK, and she has published a number of academic articles on these subjects. At UEA, she taught a popular undergraduate module, Spirituality, Education and the Child, as part of a degree course in Educational Studies. With Marian de Souza and Ann Trousdale, Jackie co-edited the book Global Perspectives on Spirituality and Education, which was published in 2014.

Jackie was a Secondary School Religious Education teacher for 12 years in Devon, Norfolk and Suffolk and, until recently, she was a co-opted Humanist member of the Norfolk Standing Advisory Committee on Religious Education (SACRE) and a Trustee on the Keswick Hall Trust.
